30th November 2014

On 1st November we left Nisyros to take up our place in Kos marina for the winter. We are on pontoon  B which is nice and quiet and not too far from the second marina entrance for pedestrians.

We have settled in and Svein has started his winter chores. Caryn has signed on at the local gym and is going 6 days a week!!!

The weather has been clement although we have had some nasty blasts from the South.

One of the first chores was to thoroughly clean and check out the dinghy before it is put away for the winter. This we did on the quay and it was an afternoon’s job!

We also need a cockpit cover to protect us from the rain and to be able to use the cockpit during the winter months as it gives us an extra room. Although originally we had planned to make it ourselves we finally decided to use the local saillmaker. After a few false starts he came and measured and within a week he was back with the first trials.

We are really looking forward to seeing it finished and installed.

Now that this urgent task was delegated Svein was able to start working on the salon cupboards. They are all very big but as there no shelves there is a great deal of wasted space. The first task was to empty the cupboard between the galley and the salon of the glasses so that it could be used to house the kitchen gadgets. This done we then had to find a home for the glasses. One of the salon cupboards was transformed into a bespoke drinks cabinet housing the bottles and glasses.

He is now busy working on another cupboard where the coffee cups, saucers and mugs will be housed, again in bespoke storage. He is very inventive!! That one will only be ready for the December blog.

We have also decided to escape the winter blues and have booked a one month trip to Thailand from mid-January. Something exciting to look forward. In the meantime we will be spending Christmas in Kos and joining friends in Kalamata for the New Year.

There is a small liveaboard community this year so we have reinstated the Friday night get together and in December there will be a BBQ (weather permitting.

In a few days it will be time to decorate the boat for Christmas – once the cockpit has had a good clean as Svein has been using it as his workshop.

Will have another update at the end of December. Take care everyone.
