We are currently recovering in Nisyros after the spate of visitors.
The American contingent arrived (a little late) but those staying on land were housed in their hotel after we all had a meal ashore and Cheryl (Caryn’s sister) took the dinghy out to Escapade at anchor in Kefalos bay. The first day of their stay was spent on board the boat with a Greek lunch and plenty of swimming. Early the next day we collected the landlubbers and brought them on board for the short trip to Nisyros.
We arrived to find that our friends on Crazy Dream had managed to save us our usual place in front of Aphrodite restaurant. A quick lunch and then a short car trip to take Jim and Jackie to their hotel in Mandraki. With the time difference all 3 were suffering from jet lag and their sleep patterns were fairly erratic. Some trips to the beach and plenty of reading have been the order of the day. Jim and Jackie hired a scooter so they were able to make their own schedule.
We also all enjoyed the celebrations for 15th August held in the monastery near Nikia. We took the special bus that was full of locals and had a very entertaining journey both to and from the venue.
We also hired a car and took Cheryl to see the sites (Nikia, Emporio and the volcano) with a delightful in Emporio. We finished the day with a visit to a beach that was a little off the usual itinerary.
The visitors have now left to continue their holiday with a week in Athens. We took advantage of the ideal opportunity to catch up on the washing (5 loads) but everything is now shipshape for our next port of call, Kardamena, where we will replace the compressor for the fridge. What our plans will be after that have not been decided yet a;though there will be a visit to Kos hospital for Caryn’s last scan in early September.
