The market is still in town today so we again wandered through it and finally found a Modano ham to have on board. We also found the local supermarket and various other shops that we will need to use before we leave on Monday for the Italian coast as again the winds are not in our favour so we have decided to sail down the coast towards Sicily and see where the wind takes us.
Hi! Fantastic news and we are hoping you might get to see us in Corfu (Gouvia Marina pontoon H54) before we depart on 5 June, after which time we will be cruising around the Lefkas area so may be able to meet up there. Safe anchoring, by the way, in the entrance to Gouvia Bay without having to pay for the marina. (40 euros a night but cheaper for a month – about 400 e)
Good marina at Tropea. If you have bad weather through the Straits of Messina, you can go into the port of Bagnara Calabra amongst the sword fishing boats. Fishermen are friendly.
Be aware that you cannot always get a place at the marina in Reggio Calabria. Be very careful about entering the marina at Rocello Ionica because there is a very shallow sand bart at entrance. You cannot enter safely with any on shore wind or swell. If you go there, it is a Port of Entry so you will asked for all documentation.
Bon Voyage crossing to Greece and hope that Odysseus manages to give you the right choice from his “bag of winds”.
Hope to see you soon
Love Doug and Kay
